Unipeck - Feeding Veggie Suet to Wild Birds
Over the past six years, we have developed a great deal of
expertise in vegetable suet-based pellets. We are now
proud to introduce a new, improved recipe of our vegetable sue
pellets called “Peck A Bites” with the highest quality range
available. Veggie suet is more digestible than animal fat
suet and suitable for all species of wild birds. Unipeck
is proud to distribute this unique product throughout North
America.
Here are some commonly asked questions about feeding veggie suet
to wild birds.
What is vegetable suet?
Veggie suet is pure refined vegetable fat, and is the most
concentrated energy food you can offer wild birds. Unipeck vegetable suet products will become soft and pliable at
temperatures of 100°F or more, but will return to a
solid state, once cooled. For areas of the world
where temperatures of 100°F are common, Unipeck only supplies non-melt suet products. In our *NEW*
"Suet" product, we only use vegetable suet in our
formulation
because it is more easily digested by birds than animal fat.
Why feed vegetable suet?
Birds have a high energy consumption rate due to high
metabolisms, and it is not uncommon for a bird to eat up to 30%
of it’s own body weight in food, per day. Due to its high protein
and calorie levels, veggie suet offers birds a high burst of energy in
a concentrated form.

When should you feed
vegetable suet?
All year round! Veggie suet gives birds the energy required to see them
though spring nesting, breeding, rearing of young and arms them
against the cold winter months. Veggie suet will also be one of the
first foods to be fed to fledglings.
A point to remember – it takes a bird around two weeks to locate
a suitable food source. Once found, the bird will only return to
this location. If that food source is removed, the bird may then
take another two weeks to locate an alternative place of
sustenance. This could prove to be particularly harmful as the
bird may become too weak and undernourished to survive.
What birds can I attract with
vegetable suet products?
Depending on your location in the world, you can expect to
attract birds of the following species or similar families:
High energy
veggie suet pellets – Robins, blackbirds, blue jays,
cardinals, woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, martins, warblers,
finches, crossbills, wrens, siskins, bluebirds,
doves, magpies, thrushes, titmice, orioles, sparrows, dunnocks.
You can also blend
veggie suet
pellets in with
dried
mealworms as part of your seed mix. And, don't forget
that you can use Popoutz
bird feeders for all of our wild bird food products!
